Family-owned local chain for Italian classics & Chicago-style, deep-dish pizzas with butter crusts. Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati's is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor. Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940's working in Chicago's first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati's Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago's best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday. To find the perfect recipe, you first need the perfect ingredients. And that's what our founders Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz were for each other. We’re very proud of the beautiful shop that we’ve built in Peoria, Arizona. We’re very proud of the great specialty coffee that we serve from Peixoto. We’re even proud of the matte black Not Neutral mugs that we serve our drinks in. But anyone could build something nice, serve something delicious, or buy some neat drinkware. We’re proud of a lot of things, but we’re most proud of the community that we get to experience each and every day in and around our shop. And we certainly didn’t build this community – it was here in the surrounding neighborhoods and schools long before we broke ground. Rather, we saw an opportunity to serve and host this thriving community and concluded that a great coffee shop would be a great way to do this. Our doors opened in August 2019, and we haven’t looked back since. Community matters to us, and that’s exactly what pushes us to serve the best coffee with the best service. Back in January 1999, we vacationed in Arizona at my brother's house in Arrowhead. Anthony and Tina told us the area was starving for a "family" owned Pizzeria where families can enjoy the casual atmosphere and great back east style Italian food at a good price. On the airplane ride back to frigid, snowy, icy, Cape Cod, Judy and I decided to put our pizzeria up for sale and move ourselves and our son Robert to the Valley of the Sun. Our hopes are to establish a casual family atmosphere at an affordable price.
